## How to Calculate Workers' Comp Premium

**Formula:** (Annual Payroll ÷ 100) × Class Code Rate × Experience Modification Rate (EMR)

### Step 1: Find Your Class Code and Rate

### Step 2: Apply Your Experience Modification Rate (EMR)

The EMR adjusts your premium based on your claims history:
- **EMR 1.0** = industry average (no adjustment)
- **EMR below 1.0** = better than average claims history (premium discount)
- **EMR above 1.0** = worse than average claims history (premium surcharge)

New businesses without 3 years of claims history receive an EMR of 1.0.

### Step 3: Calculate

**Example:** Plumbing contractor, $300,000 payroll, class code 5183 (rate $2.737), EMR 0.85  
($300,000 ÷ 100) × $2.737 × 0.85 = **$6,982 estimated annual premium**

## Florida Workers' Comp Exemptions

Florida corporate officers in construction may file a workers' comp exemption using Form DWC-250-R. Up to 3 officers per corporation may exempt themselves. Exemptions are free and valid for 2 years.
