Preguntas Frecuentes — Florida

How fast can I get a certificate of insurance in Florida?

Bright Coast Insurance issues COIs the same day for existing policyholders — most requests are completed within 2 hours of submission during business hours (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm ET). For new clients who need to bind coverage first, we can typically complete the process within 2–4 hours for standard trades. Call or text (239) 323-0785 for urgent requests.

What information do I need to request a COI in Florida?

To issue your COI, we need: the certificate holder's name and address (the GC or property owner requiring the COI), the coverage types and limits required, any additional insured endorsement requests, and whether a waiver of subrogation is needed. Having this information ready speeds up the process significantly.

Can I get a same-day COI for workers' comp in Florida?

Yes. If you already have a workers' comp policy with Bright Coast Insurance, we can issue a COI the same day. If you need to bind a new workers' comp policy first, we work with carriers that offer same-day binding for qualified applicants in most construction trades. Roofing contractors and other high-risk trades may require additional underwriting time.

What is an additional insured endorsement and do I need one?

An additional insured endorsement adds another party — typically the general contractor or property owner — to your liability policy. Most Florida GCs require this before allowing subcontractors on site. The endorsement must be added to your policy before the COI is issued. Bright Coast Insurance handles this routinely and can add it the same day.

Does Florida law require contractors to have a COI?

Florida law requires contractors in the construction industry to maintain workers' compensation insurance and provide proof (a COI) to the Florida Department of Financial Services, licensing boards, and general contractors. Operating without required coverage can result in a stop-work order and fines of at least $1,000 per day.

Can I get a COI after hours or on weekends?

Our standard COI issuance hours are Mon–Fri 8am–5pm ET. For urgent after-hours requests, call or text (239) 323-0785 — we do our best to accommodate urgent job starts. You can also submit your request through our online form at any time and we'll process it first thing the next business day.
